c: have you looked through my recommendation tag? I make a note to recommend stories that are completed or on its way toward completion or, if incomplete, still a very good read without an ending. In general, the authors who have influenced me the most are peppersweet, GubraithianFire, Aiedail, and Celestie, who all have a slew of completed stories to admire and write lots of genres, so there’s something for everyone. I’d also hugely recommend celticbard for darker stories with very rich worlds and plots.
If you’re looking for next gen romance and/or comedy (this is how I’m going to interpret “like mine”), look for these:
- Starving Artists & associated work by peppersweet, and also Welcome to Blunderland which I haven’t read but had the privilege of knowing the entire crazy storyline, and it’s mega. SA defined a lot of holes in my next gen universe, and you can pretty much see the same Rose and Lucy in Capers. And because she loves it so, and it influenced SA, I’ll also rec on her behalf Al Potter and His Very Epic Plan by Nar. Chain of inspiration!
- Napoleon’s Complex, Off-Kilter and The Horror! by GubraithianFire. Reading NC is how I met gubby. I was kind of obsessed with that story since I could relate to it like nothing before. Also, see The Confectionary for etc. etc.’s sister fic, because we had both decided to write Albus/OCs at the same time on a whim, but it’s been since abandoned and I stole all of its potential plotlines thank ye gubs c:
- Bathing in Roses, Some Kind of Beauty, and The Heartache Squadron by Celestie who writes everything and it turns into gold. So don’t just stop at these three c: her oneshots are gorgeous, and this applies to everyone else too.
- It’s Called Adventure & sequel and Serenity Hill (previously rec’d) by Aiedail, whose Hugo has been a major influence on Capers too, and there’s probably more than a bit of him stuffed into Potterpuff.
In addition to the authors above, I’d rec these stories:
- The Morning Waffle by RonsGirlFriday, flawless ensemble comedy
- Raining by HarrietHopkirk, which made me rain in feels.
- stories by AC_rules, I am a big fan of ol’ Archie in Muggle Studies and her Molly II which I’ve rec’d before.
- Friendship for Dummies by Ellerina, which is Hogwarts era, but omg the crack, her crack is like no other crack you read.
- Morocco by Majikat who does action scenes as vivid as movies.

Extended author’s note time: So I might actually be having a change of plans involving the er, rest of the story.
I had an outline for all of Capers since the beginning, and lots of little things have changed, but not of this magnitude. This morning I thought of an idea - completely by accident - and I like that idea. A lot. It potentially fits what I want better than the outline I had in place, and I’ve already set it up by accident. It’s not a little idea either; I pretty much have to change everything that happens up until the end.
I am so excited.
But the idea will make Capers darker overall (and I say this after a chapter with blood and torture and a potential bodycount, heh), and I don’t want it to spiral into an angst hole, so I will keep that in check. I blame etc. chapter 15 a teensy bit; maybe it’s a catharsis thing, but I discovered that making characters suffer is really really fun. …stop me if I sound like a psychopath. (etc. confession: I don’t like Clemence unless she’s suffering because I laughably find her to be a snide bitch. She embodies a lot of characteristics that I do not like about myself. There are a lot of reviewers who have said they wish they could be like her, and I have a very long diatribe in my head that tl;dr says: no, you don’t).
I’ve quite enjoyed writing these rambly extended author’s notes, because it reminds me why I write and where I’m going with things (writing about Capers steadily darker tone last time helped with this new chapter). If there’s any long diatribe that people ever want to hear, send an ask, because it would probably do me good. I also just like rambling.
And one last Capers news, I may post some sort of one shot collection by the end of the year, because I have a ridiculous amount of extra/omitted scenes. …It’s mostly so I can make the banner.

Serenity Hill by Aiedail
I’ve put off reading this of Lily’s for so long and SO MANY REGRETS. asdfaglh. It’s such a beautiful and charming and bittersweet and makes you think in the quiet moments, but not in some brain-hurty way (because little Charlie and Percy wouldn’t like that either). It switches between childhood Charlie and adult Charlie, and I now have a special Charlie headcanon reserved this ‘un. Like I said in one of my rave-y reviews, I would swear that Lily kidnapped Charlie Weasley himself and demanded he tell her how dragon keeping is done.
Christmas in Prison by peppersweet
My headcanon for what happened in Luna’s stay at Malfoy Manor. It’s one of those fics that give you chills, and I remember being like, ‘Wow I felt that sentence in my bones.’ And there’s a terrific moment that I always remember, a conversation amongst two death eaters, that made me realize with a very terrifying epiphany, how human they are.

I am one chapter behind still >:C But this is my favorite story off of Helen’s page, prolific writer that she is. Molly, growing up in her teen years - common premise, but this fic turns it amazing. It’s so easy to relate to Molly, with so many lessons that she’s learned and to be learned. Though her experiences are familiar, they feel fresh — it’s the best of both worlds.
One and Only by PenguinsWillReignSupreme
ONE MORE, because there are never enough recs. But this is totally my fav romance story ever. It is heartbreaking and heartwarming, about family, love, and self, and utterly b e a u t i f u l to boot. I just caught up on the spinoff, Learning From Love, and asdfghjk I miss this world so much. The characters feels so real, and their backstories are so carefully thought out and woven into the fic. It’s amazing how much it does in just seven chapters. I adore fics like these - ones that look into the Weasley clan in their good and bad days, and delve into the ugly side of life and all its consequences, but without losing hope.

Fred always tells people to run - being the reluctant point man and all - but this particular instance is related to chapter 21/22. I have been waiting foreeeeever to write them (chapter 20 is still in the way of things cough). I’ve been dreading them equally though because action scenes are hard, and these aren’t action scenes - they’re action chapters.
Probably should actually be writing these chapters but um, well. Yes. I’m packing up right now to ~go home~!!, so decided to take a break to make this, because I’ve had the idea for a long time. I’ve always found it interesting (because this wasn’t anything I planned in the beginning) that each of the characters have different goals in mind because they hold different things dear, and Capers is kind of like when all of their respective goals crash into each other.
But mostly I wanted to use skittle colors again heh :3
Chapter 18: For Better or Worse
As October drew to a close and November flung open its windows, a string of bad days snuck in with the breeze...
Posted chapter 18 yesterday! And now I’m doing lots of cutting of old chapters and future plans because this chapter made more progress than I thought, heh. If anyone recalls that old gifset I made of “Act 2.5”, I finally know the last chapter for those events will be either Chapter 20 or 21, which is 3 chapters sooner than I anticipated.
Will be getting to answering messages soon, sorry about that delay! I see that Appy message and I kind of want to try something a bit different for drawing her; I don’t know if it’ll be successful. Also not sure what to update next, but I am feeling a bit etc.-y. Exams are coming up in a week, too *___* and summer doesn’t means much because I’ll still be at school + working part-time, but well, I always find time somewhere! Maybe in the cupboard.
